2026 Chevy Malibu: Is There a 2026 Model? Discontinuation Facts

Last updated: October 10, 2026. This page was rewritten to correct earlier information about a redesigned 2026 Malibu, which was not accurate.

Quick answer: There is no 2026 Chevrolet Malibu. GM ended Malibu production in November 2024, and the 2025 model was the last one. Chevrolet has not announced a replacement midsize sedan.

Why Did Chevrolet Discontinue the Malibu?

GM built the Malibu at its Fairfax Assembly Plant in Kansas City, Kansas. In 2024, GM confirmed that production would end in November so the plant could be retooled to build the next-generation Chevrolet Bolt electric vehicle. GM pointed to customer demand that “leans heavily toward crossovers and large SUVs” as the reason.

We previously published a page that described a redesigned 2026 Malibu. That was a mistake, and we have replaced it with this fact-based version.

Can You Still Buy a Malibu?

New Malibus are no longer being built, but you may still find leftover new 2025 models at some dealers, and many used Malibus are available. Chevrolet dealers continue to provide service and parts for existing Malibus.
